Mother & Daughter ImageOur Mission

The mission of the Read It Loud! Savannah initiative is to communicate the importance and benefits of reading aloud to children, especially from birth through age six. People who are read to as children are far more likely to develop an interest in reading and achieve academic and financial success in life.

Read It Loud! Savannah is the result of literacy activist Wally Amos and his Read It LOUD! Foundation's ongoing effort to spread the message of the importance of reading aloud to children. Amos, who is a member of the Read It Loud! Savannah Advisory Board, serves as the official campaign spokesperson.

According to 2005 Census data, there are more than 18,000 children under five years old living in Chatham County. Through its intensive publicity and media campaign, special events and planned activities, Read It Loud! Savannah strives to spread its message throughout the community, especially to the parents and caregivers of all young children in the targeted age group.

Read It Loud! Savannah is a 501(c)(3) organization. Click here to make a contribution to the Read It Loud! Savannah campaign.
