Readers and book lovers of all ages packed Daffin Park for the One-Year Anniversary Celebration of our community literacy campaign.

Community organizations developed and hosted Storybook Stations, where children were able to experience children’s books through reading, activities, crafts and games. Many thanks to the following organizations for their creativity and dedication to their Storybook Stations, which helped make the Read It Loud! Savannah event a success:

Read It Loud! Savannah hosted a tent at Live Oak Public Libraries’ 2006 Savannah Children’s Book Festival in Forsyth Park. Our tent activities featured Wally Amos reading aloud to children throughout the day. WSAV TV personalities Kim Gusby and Randi Hempel also read their favorite children’s books aloud in the Read It Loud! tent. Children were invited to share the names of their favorite books on our children’s book registry. Live Oak Public Libraries reports a record 14,000 attendees.

The Read It Loud! Savannah campaign kicked off in Daffin Park with entertainment, music, refreshments, story-telling and appearances by Wally Amos, Savannah Mayor Otis Johnson, Chairman Pete Liakakis of the Chatham County Commissioners and other community leaders. Thousands attended this groundbreaking event.
